Ireland welcomed the cast and crew of one of the biggest movies to ever be shot here. The crew and cast arrived to County Kerry to film scenes from Star Wars: “The Force Awakens” and the latest blockbuster “The Last Jedi”.
Some filming took place on Skellig Michael and anyone who has seen the movie will agree, it was one of the visual highlights of the movie. The film captures the Skellig rock in all its splendour, giving magnificent views of the monastery and the 100 stone steps built by monks. The island lies in isolation more than 11km from the mainland in the Atlantic.
Portmagee in County Kerry is where most boats depart to visit Skellig Michael. During the filming the cast and crew were camped in Portmagee. This colorful fishing village hasn’t always been the centre of the Galaxy, but it will surely be known now by many Star Wars fans! Luke Skywalker (Hamill) even had time to pop into The Moorings Bar in Portmagee and spend a few hours with locals and learning to pull a pint.
Star Wars “The Force Awakens” broke box office records and brought the magnificent scenery of Skellig Michael and the Wild Atlantic Way to the attention of millions of people around the globe. But the Star Wars journey in Ireland goes on …
“The Last Jedi” hit the big screen recently and takes the fans back to several stunning locations along the Wild Atlantic Way. Locations in Kerry, Cork, Clare and Donegal were picked to appear in Episode VIII. StarWars makes Ireland look out of this world!
