With this Discover Ireland 10 Day Private Tour you’ll discover the myth & magic of the Emerald Isle at your own pace.

As it is a private tour all is flexible and many stops can be made during the day to take photos and to breathe in the incredible scenery.

Day 1 – Glendalough, Wicklow Mountains and Kilkenny Castle

10am: Pick up from Dublin Airport or Dublin City (***). We’ll start your Irish Adventure with a visit to the ancient Monastic Site with Round Tower at Glendalough. Then we’ll travel through the Wicklow Mountains, an area with spectacular scenery, to Kilkenny. Here we’ll visit the impressive Kilkenny Castle. After the tour of the castle we’ll check in to our accommodation in Kilkenny. Enjoy the rest of your afternoon and evening to explore Kilkenny’s colorful streets with many shops and bars. Go for a Pint in one of the local pubs and meet the locals who always have a story to tell.

Day 2 – Rock of Cashel, Cahir Castle and Cork City

Today we’ll visit the famous Rock of Cashel, a spectacular group of Medieval buildings high up on a limestone rock. Long before the Norman invasion the Rock of Cashle was the seat of the High Kings of Munster. It is also the site where St Patrick baptized King Aenghus in the 5th century. After the Rock we’ll travel on to Cahir, where you can visit one of the largest castles in Ireland, Cahir Castle. We’ll move on to Cork City for an overnight stay. Have a walk around Cork City and visit the English Market, St Fin Barre’s Cathedral, Elizabeth Fort and other attractions in the city.

Day 3 – Bantry House, Caha Pass and Molly Gallivan’s Cottage

Our first stop of the day is Bantry House, a historic house surrounded by beautiful gardens, overlooking Bantry Bay. We’ll take the scenic coastal road from Bantry to Glengarriff, and travel over the Caha Pass. Then we’ll visit Molly Gallivans cottage in Bonane, a 200 year old cottage and traditional farm. Experience the simple country lifestyle in rural Ireland before the days of electricity and modern conveniences. Have a taste of the home made Poitin (moonshine) that is still brewed according to Molly’s secret recipe.

Day 4 – Beara Peninsula

Today we will explore the Beara Peninsula. This part of the Southwest is still not discovered by tourist and gives you the feeling of going back in time! You will travel along small coastal roads offering great views of the Atlantic, and along the windy Healy Pass. You will visit some typical Irish villages like Ardgroom and Eyeries. See the beautiful Uragh Stone Circle and the remains of the old Copper Mines. Enjoy lunch or a drink in McCarthy’s Bar in Castletownbere, winner of “Irish Pub of the Year”.

Day 5 – Ring of Kerry, off the beaten path

Explore the Undiscovered Ring of Kerry. You will travel part of the main Ring of Kerry and also off the beaten track. Travel over mountain passes and along narrow coastal roads, all offering great views of the spectacular scenery the Ring has to offer. If you love seafood, the Bridge Bar in Portmagee is “The Place” for lunch today. Highlights of the day: Coomakista Pass, Skellig Ring,  Portmagee,  Valentia Island, Cahergal Ringfort.

Day 6 – Dingle Peninsula

Today we will explore the Dingle Peninsula, a beautiful part of Ireland. The west of Dingle is a Gaeltacht, or Irish speaking area, where the traditional language, customs, crafts and folklore are very much alive today. The Dingle Tour takes you along The Wild Atlantic Way coastal road that is one of the most scenic routes in Ireland. At Slea Head you’ll have breathtaking coastal scenery and magnificent views of the Blasket Islands. Highlights of the day: Inch Beach, Menard Castle, Dingle Town, Slea Head coastal drive, ancient Beehive Huts, Coomeenoole Beach, Dunquin Pier, and a 12th century cemetery. In the evening, go for a stroll around Dingle Town and Harbour. It is a lively town with lots of little shops and restaurant, and many pubs that have traditional music in the evenings. One of Ireland’s most famous pub’s is Dick Mack’s in Dingle, where people go for the craic, locally brewed beer, fine whiskey and live music.

Day 7 – Cliffs of Moher and Ennis

First we’ll drive from Dingle to Tarbert, where we’ll take the car ferry over the river Shannon. Hopefully you’ll spot some dolphins! On the other side of the river we will drive a scenic route to the famous Cliffs of Moher. Here you’ll have a good bit of time to explore the cliffs, and go for a cliff top walk. Then we’ll move on to Ennis for an overnight stay. This town is famous for traditional Irish music.

Day 8 – Aran Islands, The Burren and Galway

Today you’ll take the morning ferry from Doolin to Inis Oirr (Inisheer), one of the Aran Islands. You’ll have a couple of hours to explore the island by foot, bike or horse and trap. Visit the ruins of a castle, one of Ireland’s most beautiful beaches, the lighthouse and the shipwreck of the Plassy. On the way back to Doolin the ferry will cruise under the famous Cliffs of Moher, a spectacular journey. From Doolin we’ll travel to Galway along the beautiful Burren coastal road, a unique limestone landscape.  Last stop for today is Galway, where we will stay overnight for the next 2 nights. Galway, City of the tribes, has lots to offer when it comes to culture, music, history and shopping!

Day 9 – Connemara and Kylemore Abbey

On today’s programme is a tour of the Connemara. A unique and wild landscape with bogs and lakes, and breathtaking coastal scenery. Oscar Wilde has described Connemara as “a place of savage beauty”. Along the way we’ll make a stop at Kylemore Abbey, a place that has a history of tragedy, romance, innovation, education and spirituality. It was built as a beautiful castle in 1868, and is now an Abbey and home to the Benedictine nuns since 1920.

Day 10 – Newgrange and Hill of Tara

The last day of your Ireland Tour takes you from the West back to the East. First we’ll visit the famous Megalithic Passage Tomb at Newgrange that was built around 3200BC. Next stop is the Hill of Tara, once the ancient seat of power in Ireland – 142 Kings are said to have reigned here in prehistoric and historic times. In ancient Irish religion and mythology it was the sacred home for the gods, and the entrance to the otherworld. Sitting on top of the King’s Seat at the Hill of Tara is one of the most famous monuments – the Stone of Destiny”. With this day filled with history our Tour of Ireland will end. We’ll drop you off at your accommodation near Dublin Airport (***), so that you can take a flight home the next day, with a bag full of great memories!

Extend your stay
This Discover Ireland 10 Day Private Tour is based on starting from Dublin Airport around 10am and finishing near Dublin Airport late afternoon on day 10 (***). If you are planning to stay a few day in Dublin City as well, then we can drop you off in Dublin city on the last touring day (instead of the Airport). In that scenario any transfers, accommodation and other fees on the additional days (from day 11) will be at your own expense.
